In 1928, Walt Disney created Mickey Mouse to replace his previous cartoon hit, Oswald the Lucky Rabbit. Mickey & Minnie Mouse would eventually become the start of the Walt Disney company. Minnie Mouse was created as a potential girlfriend to Mickey Mouse. Her actual full name was Minerva Mouse, shortened to Minnie Mouse. Her father was Marcus Mouse and mother was Margie Mouse. Both Marcus & Margie Mouse were farmers. Her grandparents were Marshall and Matilda Mouse.
In the earlier cartoons, Minnie’s sibling sister, Mandie Mouse, was also featured.Minnie was originally designed as a flapper girl in 1929 but was redesigned in the 1940s, replacing her hat with a bow and adding bows to her shoes. Eventually, she became more and more conservative following the cultural trends in the US which was also becoming more conservative.
From the late 1930s, Minnie started featuring less as Goofy and Donald Duck were introduced and grew in popularity. In the 1980s, Minnie Mouse enjoyed a resurgence when she was featured together with Mickey Mouse in the Disney movie, Christmas Carol. Throughout the entire time, Minnie Mouse had always maintained a physical presence beside Mickey in the Disney theme parks all over the world.
